    Purpose

    The purpose of this competition is to get students involved in geology and paleontology.

    The Competition

    (1) Students will be invited to identify 40 rocks, minerals, and fossils. The student with the largest number of correct answers will be declared the winner.

    (2) Identification procedure:

      (a) Students will be allowed to rotate twice through 40 stations

      (b) Students will have 30 seconds to observe the sample and identify the rock or fossil sample in writing on an answer sheet. A bell will sound to indicate that it is time to move to the next station.

      (c) The student’s writing must be legible. If the judge can not read (or understand) the answer, it will be evaluated as incorrect.

    Evaluation

    The answer sheets will be evaluated by the judges and the winners announced at a Special Awards Ceremony scheduled for 7:30 PM on Monday, November 19th.
