The purpose of this competition is to provide the student the opportunity to develop and present a single concept of science using state-of-the-art PowerPoint Software.

Developing Your Project

(1) The student must first choose a single concept of science that would lend itself to demonstration on a computer using PowerPoint software. It is suggested that the student choose a limited subject that can be adequately demonstrated within the time frame of this competition.

(2) Translate your concept into a multimedia presentation (PowerPoint) using text, pictures, graphs, animation, audio, and video.

(3) The completed presentation must be submitted as a PowerPoint presentation (.ppt or .pps) on a CD-ROM. The disk must be labeled with students name, school, home phone, and presentation title.

(4) Your presentation must be between one (1) and three (3) minutes in length.

(5) Once the presentation is started, it must run automatically. Students will not be allowed to touch the computer nor speak after the presentation begins.
The Competition

(1) Students will be called on to present their slide show to a general viewing audience. This presentation is open to the public.

(2) Prior to activationg the slide show, the student is encouraged to make an introductory statement setting out:

a. the topic
b. explaining how the presentation will attempt to cover the topic.

(3) Once the presentation begins, students can make no further statement, explanation, nor touch the computer.
Judging

The multimedia presentations will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

(1) Proficiency in using PowerPoint. Does the presentation run smoothly using a variety of media, animation techniques, transitions, and timing.

(2) Imagination and creativity of presentation.

(3) Did the presentation adequately explain the selected concept of science.

(4) Did the student demonstrate poise and composure in their introductory statement.


Old Rules That Do Not Apply
Purpose

The purpose of this competition is to provide the student the opportunity to develop and present a single concept of science using state-of-the-art PowerPoint Software.
Developing Your Project

(1) The student must first choose a single concept of science that would lend itself to demonstration on a lap top computer using Power Point Software.

It is suggested that the student choose a limited subject that can be adequately demonstrated within the time frame of this competition.

(2) Translate your concept into a Power Point Presentation using text, graphs, slides, pictures, etc. You must supply your own lap top computer for your presentation.

(3) Your presentation should last no less than one minute nor more than 3 minutes.
The Competition

(1) Students will be called on to set up their laptop in SLIDE SHOW mode for a general viewing audience. This presentation is open to the public.

(2) Prior to activating the slide show the students must make an introductory statement setting out:

(a)The topic.
(b)Explaining how their power point presentation will attempt to cover that topic.

(3) Once the slide show mode is engaged, the students can make no further statement or explanation, nor touch the computer.
Judging

The Power Point presentation will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

(1) Proficiency in using PowerPoint

(2) Imagination and creativity of presentation

(3) Did the presentation adequately explain the selected concept of science

(4) Did the student demonstrate poise and composure in any preliminary explanations.
