    Purpose

    The purpose of this competition is to give a team of up to four students an opportunity to get more involved in environmental science and the great out-of-doors.

    Check-in

    (1) On arrival at the competition site in Fair Park, students need to check-in with judges.

    (2) Students will receive a packet containing the following:

      (a) Instructions – students will get instructions for an experiment involving some aspect of environmental science.
      (b) Resource Materials – information that will provide the research team with data that will help work through the experiment.
      (c) Equipment – materials necessary for conducting the experiment
      (d) Lab book and pens

    (3) The team will receive a Start Time for beginning their experiment.

    The Competition

    (1) Teams will begin the competition at the prescribed Start Time.

    (2) Teams will be called upon to record their date using acceptable scientific methods.

    (3) Teams will analyze their data and reach a conclusion from their experiment.

    (4) Students will submit a written lab report which records and analyzes the experiment. The End Time will be recorded when the lab report is submitted to the judges.

    Evaluation

    (1) The winner of the competition will be the team of students who develop the most accurate, complete report from the experiment.

    (2) Criteria used:

      · Accuracy of Data
      · Completeness
      · Neatness of Lab Report
      · Use of the Scientific Method

    (3) The length of time needed to do the experiment will be used in the event of a tie.
