The purpose of this competition is to provide an opportunity for mothers and daughters to share together the fun of science.

The instructions are drafted in broad terms to facilitate the greatest amount of creativity on the part of each contestant.

(1) The event contestant is defined as a mother/daughter team.

(2) The The contestant should select a project that can be conducted as a “traditional” science fair project.

(3) As a guideline, the project should be conducted over a thirty-day period. Projects cannot include any animal, explosive, hazardous chemical, or controlled substance.

(4) Conduct the project over the course of the experiment paying special attention to photograph the experience shared between mother/daughter.

(5) “Photograph” is defined as a “still” photograph or a VHS video. If you are using a video to help present your project, one VCR/TV will be available for judges’ viewing.

(6) Contestants are responsible for supplying all the equipment necessary to present and display their project, other than what is listed above. Winston Science/CCCCD will provide tables and sources of electricity.

(7) Prepare a traditional science fair backboard showing the following:

(8) On the day of the competition, set up your backboard and display any other appropriate materials that might help the judges evaluate your project. Projects will be displayed on tables.

(9) Both mother and daughter must be in attendance to meet with the judges to share the project.

(10) The following are some of the questions which might be asked by judges:

  1. How did you (mother/daughter) select the topic for your project?
  2. Did you get the expected results?
  3. What interesting experiences did you both have as a result of conducting this experiment together?

If a more than one daughter in a family wants to take part in this project, the mother can "team" with each of the students so long as adequate time is spent on each experiment, and the mother is present for each project presentation to the judges.
