(1) Contestants will build a battery-powered remote controlled vehicle that will drive a 25-meter maze of obstacles, ramps, and varying floor conditions. The winner of the event will be the contestant that accurately navigates the maze in the shortest amount of time.
(2) Contestants can build any type of battery powered remote control vehicle, so long as that vehicle completely fits within a box 50cm x 50cm x 50cm, including the antennae. The antennae can be folded to adequately fit into the box.
(3) It is recommended that vehicles be radio controlled to avoid interference with obstacles. It is also suggested that the antennae be mounted in a horizontal manner so that the antennae has less of a chance to get tangled along the course.
The Competition
(1) Contestants will be competing against the clock.
(2) Teams will have two attempts to run the maze. The best time will be recorded as the official "run time."
(3) Team members can follow the car along the outside of the maze as the vehicle progresses through the course, however, team members can not touch the car once the car starts an official run.
(4) If a team's vehicle misses an obstacle, the team can retrace that portion of the course to complete the competition. There is no penalty except for elapsed time.
(5) If a team's vehicle misses an obstacle and does not retrace that portion of the course, it will be disqualified. The disqualified run counts as one of the team's two tries at the course. A team can also be disqualified for a display of poor sportsmanship.
(6) The winner will be the team whose vehicle completes the course in the shortest amount of time.
The Course
(1) Contestants should not underestimate the imagination of the race organizers to develop a challenging course. The best way to prepare for the event will be to spend the maximum amount of time learning how to best control your vehicle under difficult conditions.
(2) You can expect:
- ramps
- hairpin turns
- road-narrowing conditions
- uneven roadways
- double-backs
- steep hills and declines
- road conditions that offer varying degrees of friction
- obstacles
(3) You will have full opportunity to study the course before the event, but you may not drive the course prior to your two official runs. This requires you to prepare your driving skills before you come to the event!
