The objective of this new competition is to share the fun and excitement of Astronomy with students.

(1) Students will take part in a series of events including:

  1. Astronomy Bowl
  2. Identification of constellations
  3. Telescopes
  4. 30-question Astronomy quiz

(2) Students will rotate between four concurrent sessions designed to evaluate a student's knowledge of astronomy.

(3) Astronomy Bowl will follow the rules set out for the Science Bowl Competition, but will ask questions exclusively within the field of astronomy.

(4) Identification of constellations will ask the students to recognize several constellations characteristic of the early Winter Sky.

(5) Telescopes will ask the student to identify types of telescopes, parts of a telescope, and major observatories in the United States.

(6) The Astronomy Quiz will consist of thiry questions exploring these topics:

  1. Stars and Galaxies
  2. Our Solar System
  3. Current Astronomy Topics

Evaluation
Students will receive a score in each of the four events set out above. The sum of these four scores will be the student's overall event score.

The winner of the event will be the student that scores the highest overall event score.
