TOWER COMPETITION

- “Contestant’ is defined as a team composed of four students
- No advanced preparation is required for this competition.

(1) Only teams of four students can assemble to build a paper tower.
(2) The tower will be constructed using only the following materials supplied by the event staff:
- 100 grams of 81/2” x 11” copy paper
- 300-inch roll of scotch tape
(3) Students will have 30 minutes to build their tower.
(4)The tallest tower still standing at the end of the 30-minute time period will be declared the winner.
(5) Students are not allowed to physically help support the tower with their bodies. Only paper and scotch tape can be used to build and support the tower.
(6) All towers will be judged at the same time: at the end of the 30-minute time period.
(7) Judging Procedure:
- Staff will measure the height of the tower in centimeters.
- The team will de-construct their tower and throw away the used materials.
- Judges will then record the tower height in the official record. Towers not discarded will not be a part of this competition.
(8) Students wasting materials during the competition will be disqualified. Students conducting themselves in a less-than-serious manner will be asked to leave the competition floor.
(9) Observers will not be allowed to come closer that 10 meters to contestants to reduce air drafts.
(10) Awards will be presented at the end of each competition.
