Purpose

The purpose of this competition is to challenge a student’s imagination and creativity.

Procedure

(1) Teams of up to four students will organize to build a device.

(2) Teams of students will be arranged in a large circle. A pile of materials and equipment will be placed at the focus of the circle.

(3) Teams will have 40 minutes to select materials from the pile and assemble a working device.

(4) Teams can only use materials in the pile. Teams can not get advice or assistance from bystanders.

(5) Teams must conduct themselves in a professional manner. No grabbing or hording of materials will be allowed.

The Device Defined

(1) The device must accomplish a task

(2) The device can not simulate a machine. It must be the actual working machine.

Evaluation

Teams will be evaluated based on the imagination and level of creativity that goes into the device. Special emphasis will be placed on whether the device accomplishes the desired task.
