Numbers Competition 8:00 PM, Friday, November 21, 2008 Levy Learning Center, Winston School [Grade Groups Do Apply] [“Contestant” is defined as a single individual] (Back to Competitions)

Purpose

The purpose of this competition is to encourage students to explore the beauty of numbers, and to appreciate the relationship of one number to another.

Procedure

(1) This is an Individual Event. Contestants must arrive at The Winston School no later than 7:50 PM, Friday, November 21, 2008.

(2) Students will want to bring the following:

1. calculator
2. pencils and scratch paper

The Competition

(1) Contestants will receive three distinctly different types of questions involving a number solution.

(2) Contestants will be evaluated based on:

• First: Correctness of the answer
• Second: Amount of time it takes to achieve this correct answer.
• Third: Completeness of supporting calculations.[Yes, this means that you have to show your work!]

(3) There is no partial credit for any problem.

The Winner

(1) The winner of the competition will be the contestant that achieves the highest combined score on the three types of questions.

(2) The Winner will be announced at a special Awards Ceremony scheduled for 7:30 PM on Monday, November 24, 2008 at The Winston School.
