Purpose

This competition is designed to provide students with a meaningful experience using Forensic Science.

Procedure

(1)Contestants will form a team of three or four students to participate in this competition. Teams under 3 students will not be allowed to participate.

(2)Teams without experience in Forensic Science should attend a forensic workshop. They will share mini-courses that will equip them with the skills to help solve the “crime.”

(3)Teams with experience in Forensic Science go directly to the competition phase to receive the “crime” information. Teams have two hours to solve the case and turn in their solution to the crime.

Evaluation

(1)Judges will use the following criteria to evaluate the solutions:

  1. Accuracy of the solution
  2. Did the team use all available evidence to solve the crime?
  3. Did the team present a thorough written solution to the crime?

(2)The team with the most accurate solution with the best evidence support will be declared the winner.

(3)The Awards will be presented at a special Awards Ceremony scheduled for 7:30 PM on Monday, November 24, 2008.
